Reed Class of 2011
Congratulations, crew, the moment of truth is here! I recieved the admission e-mail today; can't wait to hold the letter in my hands. How's everybody else doing? The month ahead'll be very exciting.
[If you didn't get in, I'm sorry; my feeling is that if any person who truly wants to go to Reed is a Reedie-type at heart anyway, and I'm happy to (virtually) know you all.]
I haven't posted in the community before, but I figure, what with my acceptance and all, that since I will be, in all likelihood be attending Reed with y'all next year, I might drop in and say.
Congrats to everybody!
So I just got my acceptance phone call, email, and acceptance letter (not all in one go, mind you). And I was friggin excited too. However, I don't qualify for financial aid due to the FAFSA, which only reflects income and not expenses. Therefore, the FAFSA is, in a sense, correct. My family could pay for Reed if we sold our cars, house, and I got a job as a prostitute.
My financial "aid" package says I will have to pay $47,980 in loans. Per year.
HELP! Any ideas (either from imagination or experience) about how to accomplish this? Any success stories from begging the financial aid office?
p.s. Anyone going to RAD? I am! :D
can't, I'd have to buy plane tickets.
Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ, and I thought the aid packages I've gotten from places so far were screwing me over. (I'm still dubious that I'll be able to pay for Reed, either).
I have read that if you have unusual expenses (esp. things like medical care), you can apply for a change due to special circumstances? And you can always talk to the financial aid office and try to win em over; definately won't hurt. Talking to them is almost certainly the most useful thing you'll be able to do.
And is the loan bit what they're officially offering you, or how you're interpreting what you've been "offerred"? Because most places tend to have a policy that limits the size of the loans, if not close to as limited as anyone would like...
No, the fin aid package says I get "officially" 3500 in the unsubsidized federal loan, and I can apply for the rest through the Parental PLUS loan. Which is a lot of interest--like 8% i think.
Reed really gave me the worst package out of the millions of schools I applied to, but I'm so in love with it, I can't possibly not go.
did everyone get acceptances from Reed already?
I am so excited for everyone that's going. Also, I would like to meet some more of you (in internet form).
Wooot I got in and I got meh packet today. It's teh happiness.
WAIT LIST! I am so relieved :)
Congrats to everyone whp got in!
Whoops. I swear the spelling on my application was better :)
hope you can go! it's looking like I might not be able to pay, so maybe you can get my spot :~).
Oh! I hope everything works out for everybody. Sigh. I never thought college admissions would be so heartbreaking!
